Legate in Chrome — Privacy.
- 01 What it reads
- The one Chrome tab you hand to Legate, only while Regaldi Studio asks for it: visible text, form fields, links, and a screenshot of that tab.
- 02 Where it goes
- To Regaldi Studio on your computer and from there to your organisation’s Legate server. Never to Regaldi’s website, never to advertisers.
- 03 What it never touches
- Password and payment fields, other tabs, your browsing history, local and private network addresses.
- 04 How to stop it
- Pause Legate in the popup, forget the tab, or remove the extension. Regaldi Studio must confirm with you before anything is sent or signed.
Legate in Chrome is a browser extension published by Regaldi LLC ("Regaldi", "we") for customers of Regaldi Studio (formerly Legate Pro), our desktop AI workspace. It lets Legate work in one tab of your Chrome with your own logins. This page describes exactly what the extension reads, where the data goes, what it never touches, and how to stop it. It supplements the website Privacy Policy; the terms of your Regaldi Studio engagement govern how your organisation's server handles your data.
01What the extension reads
One tab, on request. Legate opens its own tab (in a "Legate" tab group) or works in a tab you hand over from the popup. Only while Regaldi Studio asks for it, the extension reads from that tab: the page address and title, the visible text, the interactive elements (buttons, links, form fields and their current values), and, when Legate needs to see the layout, a screenshot of the visible area. It types, selects, scrolls and clicks in that tab on Regaldi Studio's request.
Nothing else. The extension does not read other tabs, your browsing history, bookmarks, cookies, downloads, or anything on a page Legate is not working in. It runs no code on pages by itself; a page is touched only when Regaldi Studio sends a request for that tab.
02Where the data goes
The extension talks only to Regaldi Studio installed on the same computer, through Chrome's native messaging. Regaldi Studio forwards the request and the result to the Legate server of your organisation over an encrypted connection, using the account key held by the app. The extension itself stores no server address and no key (a legacy direct-connection mode exists under Settings → Advanced for computers without Regaldi Studio; it is off by default).
Page content read by the extension becomes part of the task Legate is performing for you and is handled as described in your Regaldi Studio agreement: it is processed by the AI model providers behind Legate (currently Anthropic and OpenAI) and kept in your conversation history on your organisation's server. Screenshots are used for the current task and are not retained by the extension. Nothing from the extension reaches regaldi.ai, analytics services, or advertisers.
03What it never touches
- Passwords and payment details. Fields of these kinds are recognised and are neither read nor filled; screenshots mask them. You type them yourself.
- Committing actions. Anything that could send, pay, delete, sign, subscribe, or agree to something (including consent checkboxes and the Enter key in a form) is described to you and confirmed in the Regaldi Studio window before it happens. A spoken "yes" to the voice assistant does not count. Each confirmation is used exactly once.
- Local and private addresses. Pages on localhost, private networks and link-local addresses are blocked.
- Sites you exclude. In Settings you can list the only domains Legate may work on.
04What is stored in Chrome
The extension keeps a small amount of local state in Chrome's extension storage: which tab was handed over, whether Legate is paused, an anonymous device identifier used to tell one browser from another, and your allowed-domains list. It sets no cookies and builds no profile. Removing the extension deletes this state.
05Permissions, in plain words
- Tabs and tab groups — to open and find Legate's own tab and to let you hand over a tab.
- Scripting — to read and act inside the Legate tab on request.
- Storage — for the local state above.
- Alarms — to reconnect to Regaldi Studio after Chrome or the computer wakes.
- Native messaging — to connect to Regaldi Studio on this computer.
- Access to all sites — Legate has to be able to work on whatever site you ask for; you can narrow this to a list of domains in Settings.
06How to stop it
Click the Legate icon and choose Pause Legate: the next action is refused until you resume. Forget the tab releases a handed-over tab. Quitting Regaldi Studio disconnects the extension. Removing the extension in chrome://extensions removes it and its local state entirely. Your conversation history on the Legate server is governed by your Regaldi Studio agreement; write to office@regaldi.ai to ask about it.
