Is this allowed under Florida Bar rules?
Florida Bar Ethics Opinion 24-1 says lawyers may use generative AI, provided they protect client confidentiality, provide accurate and competent services, avoid improper billing and comply with the advertising rules. Advisory opinions are not binding; the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar are. Your firm remains responsible for how it uses any tool, ours included. We cannot tell you whether a particular use is permitted. For that, ask The Florida Bar’s ethics staff or your own ethics counsel.
Does client information go to an AI company?
When the software works on matter content, yes: the text of the task is processed by the AI provider, today Anthropic or OpenAI. Opinion 24-1 recommends informed client consent before confidential information goes to a third-party AI program. The provider, the data and the terms are set out in writing before anything is connected, and the firm decides which matters go in.
Who checks the work?
A lawyer at your firm, before anything is relied on, filed or sent. Opinion 24-1 asks lawyers to verify the accuracy and sufficiency of research done with AI. That is why each line of a research file carries its source. AI makes mistakes, including citations that do not exist.
Will it talk to our clients or to prospective clients?
Not on its own. Reminders to current clients are drafted for approval and go from the firm’s mailbox once a person at the firm approves them. It does not contact prospective clients, and we do not put a chatbot on your website.
Can we bill clients for the work it prepares?
That is your firm’s decision under Rule 4-1.5. Opinion 24-1 says AI efficiency must not lead to inflated claims of time, that a lawyer who charges the actual cost of AI should tell the client, preferably in writing, and that time spent learning the tool should not be charged. Our charges to the firm are set out in writing to help you keep that record straight.
Our practice software already has AI. Why add this?
If it covers the work, keep using it. Legate and Studio are for work that crosses many portals and files: public records across county and state sites, comparing drafts, keeping document reminders and checklists moving between matters.
Does Regaldi practice law or check our work for legal accuracy?
No. Regaldi LLC is a Florida software company, not a law firm. We set up and support the software. We do not give legal advice and we do not review documents for legal correctness.
Is it HIPAA compliant or SOC 2 certified?
We make no such claim, and Regaldi holds no SOC 2 or ISO certificate today. If your matters involve medical records, review the data terms with your own advisers before any such records go in, or keep those matters out.
